You asked for a chore rota. The inventory found 61 recurring household obligations, of which 34 are invisible tasks nobody thinks of as chores: renewals, appointments, forms, reordering, remembering. Fifty of the 61 currently sit with one person, and it is not the person who asked for the rota.

The invisible half is the problem

Twenty seven of the 61 are visible tasks like cleaning and cooking, which are already shared reasonably. Thirty four are administrative and almost all of them are Priya's, including every one that has a deadline attached.

The home maintenance row is the pattern in miniature. Tomas does the task and Priya remembers that it needs doing, which is two jobs, and only one of them is visible from the outside.

This moves 19 of the 34 invisible tasks. It deliberately leaves appointments and school with Priya, because she holds the context and moving those would create more work than it removes. The aim is a fairer split, not a symmetrical one.

03

Removal

Eleven tasks that can stop existing

The best household task is one that no longer needs a person. Eleven of the 61 can be automated, batched or deleted outright.

TaskActionSaves
Reordering six household staples Subscription delivery, monthly 6 tasks a month
Remembering bin day Council calendar into the shared calendar Weekly nagging
Chasing the boiler service Annual service plan with automatic booking One annual task and one argument
Water filter cartridges Subscribe Quarterly
Checking whether the car tax is due Automatic renewal, already available Annual
Buying birthday cards in a hurry Six months bought in one trip Five panics a year
Deciding what is for dinner A repeating four week rotation Seven decisions a week

The last row is the largest. Seven decisions a week, every week, made at the least resourceful moment of the day. A repeating rotation removes the decision without removing the cooking, and it is the single highest value change in this document.
