What the customer receives

HostelLoop example booking confirmation

A dorm bed booking should say which bed, what comes with it, and which rules get people asked to leave. Anything longer than that is padding.

A complete sample confirmation, written the way HostelLoop writes one. The customer, the dates and the amounts are illustrative, and nothing here was charged or reserved.

Rules

The three that are actually enforced

RuleWhyWhat happens
Quiet in dorms from 22:00 Six people, different plans, one room Asked once, then moved to a private room at your cost
No outside visitors above the ground floor Everyone in a dorm has paid for a bed and checked in Asked to leave the building
No alcohol in the dorms The bar is downstairs and open until 01:00 Asked once, then the bar closes to you
No cooking in the dorms Kitchen on the ground floor, open 07:00 to 23:00 Asked to use the kitchen
Bags off the floor by 10:00 on checkout day Housekeeping has 5 hours to turn 138 beds Bags moved to the luggage room

The second row is the one that gets people asked to leave, and it is not about noise. Everyone in that room has trusted a locked door and a bed number; someone who did not check in has not been verified by anyone.

Practical

Arriving and leaving

  • Bring a padlock, or buy one at reception for USD 4. The lockers do not have built-in locks
  • Passport or ID at check in. Berlin requires a registration form and it takes two minutes
  • City tax is paid at check in and is not included in the online rate
  • Arriving after 23:00 needs the Late Arrival add-on booked in advance. Without it there is nobody to let you in
  • Free cancellation until 14:00 the day before. After that the first night is charged
  • Luggage room is free on arrival day and departure day
