The hire
What went out, and its condition
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Tool | Hilti TE 1000-AVR demolition breaker, 110 V |
| Asset number | 4471. Stamped on the housing and on the case |
| Last service | 14 September 2026. PAT tested, label current |
| Out | Thursday 1 October, 08:12, counter handover |
| Due back | Friday 2 October, 17:00 |
| With it | Point chisel, flat chisel, 110 V transformer, carry case |
| Condition noted | Scuff to housing, near handle. Chipped case latch |
| Photographs | 6 frames at handover, timestamped, in your account |
| Replacement value | USD 2,400 |
The two condition points were noted and photographed before the tool left the counter. Neither is chargeable to you. They are recorded so that they are not attributed to this hire on return.
Your side
Liability, and the two things that catch people
| Situation | Who pays |
|---|---|
| Fair wear from normal use | ToolFleet |
| Mechanical failure not caused by misuse | ToolFleet, and we swap it same day |
| Chisels blunted through use | ToolFleet |
| Damage from misuse or wrong application | You, at cost |
| Theft from a locked site or vehicle | You, replacement value |
| Loss of the transformer or a chisel | You, at USD 180 and USD 45 |
| Returned excessively dirty | You, USD 30 cleaning |
You declined the damage waiver, which is your normal choice on this account. It would have been USD 9 and would have capped your liability at USD 250 for damage, though not for theft, which is never covered by it.
Coming back
Return, and what a late one costs
| Returned | Charge |
|---|---|
| By 17:00 Friday | Nothing further |
| Saturday, by 14:00 | One extra day, USD 48 |
| Saturday after 14:00, depot closed | Charged to Monday, USD 96 |
| Monday | USD 96, three days |
The depot closes at 14:00 on Saturday and does not open Sunday. A tool that misses Saturday costs three days rather than two, which is worth knowing at 13:30 on Saturday rather than at 15:00.
- Bring the case, both chisels and the transformer. A missing chisel holds the return open
- Brush the worst of the dust off. There is a bay by the counter
- The counter checks it against the six handover photographs while you are there
- Ask for the return receipt. It closes the hire and stops the clock
