Four venues for 120 guests, Saturday 6 June
Wedding reception, Yorkshire. Shortlisted on the three operational rules that decide whether a venue works, not on the photographs.
Nineteen venues hold 120 seated within your area and budget. Four survive once you apply the three things you said were non negotiable: your own caterer, music until midnight, and the whole day in one place. The venue you told us you loved is not one of them, and clause 4 says why.
Bracken Hall is the strongest fit and is the only one of the four with 6 June still open. Thornlea Barn, the one you have been looking at, allows outside catering only from its own approved list of three, none of whom do the food you described. That is a policy, not a negotiation, and it is better known now than in March.

The four
Bracken Hall
Georgian hall, 140 seated in the long room with the dance floor at the far end, so no turnaround. Outside caterers welcome with a 400 GBP kitchen hire. Music to 00:30 under their licence. Walled garden for drinks. 6 June still open as of 30 September, which will not last for a June Saturday.
The Stone Byre
Converted barn, 130 seated, cheapest of the four. Any caterer, no kitchen fee, and a proper prep kitchen rather than a corner. Music to midnight exactly, hard stop, written into the licence. Small courtyard only. 6 June open.
Mereside Rooms
The most comfortable room of the four and the only one with a wet weather plan that does not involve a marquee. Two constraints: dinner and dancing are in the same room, which means a 45 minute turnaround while guests are in the bar, and the evening capacity is 150 against your 160.
Halcyon Mill
Riverside, beautiful, and the top of your budget before extras. Outside catering allowed. Music to midnight. The reason it is fourth: 6 June is provisionally held for another party until 20 October. Worth a call, not a plan.

Ruled out
Thornlea Barn, and the other fifteen
| Venue | Why it is not on the list |
|---|---|
| Thornlea Barn | Approved caterer list of three only. Confirmed with the venue on 29 September |
| Kirkgate House | Music ends 23:00 under the licence. Not negotiable, residential neighbours |
| The Old Exchange | Dinner and dancing in separate rooms, no exception |
| Wharfe Lodge | In house catering only |
| Sedbergh Rooms | 110 seated maximum |
| Crossgill Hall | 6 June already booked |
| Nine others | Outside the 30 minute area, or above 6,500 GBP before extras |
Thornlea's approved caterer list is a common arrangement and usually about insurance and kitchen liability rather than money. We asked directly rather than reading the website, because websites on this point are frequently out of date in both directions.

Enquire, in this order
- Bracken Hall today. June Saturdays go 14 to 18 months out and you are at 20.
- The Stone Byre this week, as the value option and a genuine second choice.
- Halcyon Mill after 20 October, once the provisional hold resolves.
- Mereside only if the 160 evening number can come down to 145.
- Ask each one what the kitchen fee actually covers, and whether staff are included
- Ask about the licence end time in writing, not the music end time
- Ask what time you get access on the morning, which decides how much family can do
- Get the caterer's public liability requirement from the venue before booking the caterer
